School bathrooms across America are being vandalized all because of a TikTok challenge known as “Devious Licks.”
The latest trend is causing students to steal urinals, smash floor tiles, and remove soap dispensers, CNN reported. The destruction is taking place in middle schools, high schools, and even some colleges.
After the damage is done, students are sharing their results on the social media app.
But TikTok isn’t here for it. They are quickly shutting down the trend by removing the videos from its platform.
“We expect our community to stay safe and create responsibly, and we do not allow content that promotes or enables criminal activities. We are removing this content and redirecting hashtags and search results to our Community Guidelines to discourage such behavior,” a TikTok spokesperson told CNN.
But social media users are taking their videos to other platforms.
As a result, some schools have decided to lock bathrooms for large portions of the day. But some people are happy with this solution, including school counselor and author Phyllis Fagell.
“I have a lot of empathy for administrators who are dealing with this behavior,” Fagell said, but she warned that punishing everyone for the actions of a few students can sow mistrust.
She feels that allowing students to use the bathrooms when they want is a basic sign of respect. “If adults want kids to show respect, they have to show respect in return.”
Hmmm. This is a weird trend.
