While TikTok is usually the place to showcase the latest social media challenges, the platform is not here for the viral #MilkCrateChallenge.
This latest trend, which has taken the internet by storm, entails building a pyramid of empty milk crates and walking across the structure without falling. While a few of these videos show people successfully making it down unscathed, most of them find participants taking nasty falls as the crates come crashing down.
TikTok is now taking action to get rid of the daring stunts for good, stating that they prohibit all “content that promotes or glorifies dangerous acts.”
The challenge has gained so much popularity that even the FDA urges people to stop participating in it altogether. In a tweet, the agency wrote, “Although we regulate milk, we can’t recommend you try that. Perhaps enjoy a nice glass of 2% and return all those crates to the grocery store?”

Health officials have slammed those who partake in the dangerous challenge during a time when the healthcare system is overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients. The Baltimore City Health Department asked its Twitter followers to check the number of available beds at nearby hospitals before attempting the daring feat.
With COVID-19 hospitalizations rising around the country, please check with your local hospital to see if they have a bed available for you, before attempting the #milkcratechallenge. 🤕🏥 https://t.co/wsVliFp5bg

Though TikTok is clearing their platform of the #MilkCrateChallenge, searching the hashtag on Instagram features thousands of clips of people attempting the act, usually with spectators filming and cheering them on. Many participants appear to suffer serious injuries once the challenge goes awry. One Twitter user with the handle, @SmittySpreadLuv was brave enough to share an image of a painful-looking bruise to his back with the caption, “Man fxck the #CrateChallenge.”
