TikTok is expanding by partnering with Shopify, the e-commerce platform announced Tuesday. This new deal will allow Shopify merchants to select which product they want to promote. Video ads will then automatically generate and pop-up on TikTok user’s video feed, driving customers to Shopify checkout to easily make purchases. This partnership will allow over 1 million merchants who use Shopify to have access to younger consumers.
Shopify previously allowed a small number of merchants to access these features as part of a beta test before making the service available to all merchants in the U.S. Those looking to begin advertising on TikTok will have to install the TikTok channel app, then create and connect their TikTok For Business account and install the one-click pixel.
“TikTok is one of the world’s fastest growing entertainment platforms with over 100 million highly engaged users in the U.S. alone,” said Satish Kanwar, Vice President of Product at Shopify, in a statement before adding “The TikTok channel means Shopify merchants—even those without a strong TikTok following of their own yet—can connect with these new audiences using content that feels authentic and genuine to the TikTok experience.”
Since the partnership was announced, shares of Shopify Inc. SHOP, -5.18% are up 4.2%. TikTok is also still in negotiations with Walmart, who planned to purchase a 7.5 percent stake in the beloved video app.
