What started out as a TikTok craze will be hitting your local stores and restaurants.
Miami local Chef Pii became famous for her Pink Sauce and is now partnering with Dave’s Gourmet to put the condiment on shelves.
The infamous Pink Sauce went viral online after Chef Pii began sharing TikToks of herself pouring the then-homemade condiment on foods. The videos gained more than 80 million views on TikTok, with curious users wanting to get their hands on this mystery sauce.
Thanks to social media, the Pink Sauce became an instant success, selling out in just days. However, it was met with mounds of backlash after social media users posed health concerns about color differences, dairy ingredients, and even label misspellings.
“Why is the color Different?” “If the bottle says to refrigerate, why is it being shipped without temperature-controlled packaging?” one user posed.
Some even questioned if the product was simply “mayo with coloring.”
Pii later defended the sauce calling it a “prototype.”
The original ingredients included sunflower seed oil, pink sauce, chili, honey, and garlic. While the ingredients on the bottle included water, sunflower seed oil, raw honey, distilled vinegar, garlic, pitaya, pink Himalayan sea salt, dried spices, lemon juice, milk, and citric acid.
Now, fans will soon be able to get their hands on the re-formulated sauce through Chef Pii’s partnership with Dave’s Gourmet, which is known for selling a line of hot sauces and pasta sauces.
“Our R&D team was able to re-formulate the sauce to match Chef Pii’s exact color and flavor profile for the product and at the same time change some of the ingredients to make the sauce less complicated, dairy-free, and clean of any preservatives, artificial colors or flavors,” said Dave’s Gourmet’s President David Neuman.
Dave’s Gourmet shared in a press release that “Chef Pii will continue driving the social media aspects of the business and will participate in all the major steps of commercial production of The Pink Sauce.”
