It was just a matter of time before TikTok entered the music game! The short-video platform is launching a new platform called SoundOn.
SoundOn is an “all-in-one platform for music creators.” SoundOn’s goal is to “empower” new and undiscovered artists to allow them to upload their music directly to TikTok. Creators can receive 100% of royalties in the first year and 90% after.
The site says creators will be paid monthly, maintain 100% ownership, and have no administration fees.
TikTok’s head of music says Ole Obermann, “New artists and musical creators are a vibrant community within TikTok, and SoundOn is designed to support them as they take the first steps in their career.”
Artists have complained in the past about not having the ownership rights to their music on the platform.
Obermann continues, “Our SoundOn teams will guide creators on their journey to the big stage and bring the expertise and power of TikTok to life for the artist. We’re incredibly excited about how this will surface and propel new talent and how SoundOn will contribute to an increasingly diverse and growing global music industry.”
SoundOn is available in the US, the UK, Brazil, and Indonesia.
