Tina Knowles is opening up about the painful rumors that surrounded Beyoncé’s first pregnancy, with some questioning whether she was ever carrying her own child at all.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight while promoting her memoir, “Matriarch,” the businesswoman reflected on the nasty remarks internet trolls and tabloids made before Bey gave birth to her first child, Blue Ivy, on January 7th, 2012. As some may recall, there were accusations that the singer was wearing a prosthetic stomach. Knowles says these rumors were especially painful, considering that Bey had previously suffered miscarriages.
“That loss is so, I mean, it’s devastating. But it’s ten times worse when the public is saying crazy stuff about you at the time and you can’t address it,” she explained. “And for me, it was one of the hardest times of my life, was when they started the rumor that Bey wasn’t really pregnant because she had gone through these miscarriages and finally she’s pregnant and she didn’t tell anybody until she got past the hard parts of that and knew that it was sticking and then for someone to start that rumor. I wanted to go off on people, and I wanted to set the record straight, and she would not allow me to talk.”
Knowles says her daughter didn’t want her to respond to the rumors, hoping they would die down. Unfortunately, “it didn’t blow over.”
“For you to think that we would build prosthetics bigger and bigger and bigger and go through, for what? Like, it is calling my whole family and my whole family history a lie. It’s calling me a lie. It’s calling her dad a lie. It’s calling everybody around her a liar. That we would all be a part of this conspiracy to trick the world. For what?” Knowles stated.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed their twins, Rumi and Sir, on June 13th, 2017. However, the couple has been even more guarded with the two, particularly their son. Sadly, this has only fueled more disturbing rumors about the young boy, reminiscent of the scrutiny the couple faced with their first child.
