Tina Knowles went viral on Thursday for seemingly firing back at Dolly Parton following her comments regarding Beyoncé’s CMA snub. However, Mama Tina says she never made the remarks to begin with.
The situation unfolded when several outlets reported that Knowles responded to Parton’s Variety Interview, in which she suggested that other country musicians may have been more deserving of CMA nominations than Bey. Several publications shared a screenshot of Knowles commenting on a post about the situation and setting the record straight.
“Oh Ms. Dolly. We love you, but Bey did spend her WHOLE life workin’ hard, since she was 9! She got country roots too. She’s mastered her craft and broken records in EVERY genre. So sayin’ she didn’t ‘spend her life’ in country music dismisses all that work she put in. Bey don’t need to stay in one lane to get respect- her talent and work ethic speak for themselves! She’s been puttin’ in the work, and nobody else gets asked to ‘spend their life’ in one place to be recognized! #beencountry,” the screenshot read.
However, after Knowles’ slight dragging of Parton began to circulate, she spoke out yet again, claiming the comments were not actually made by her despite having been posted from her official Instagram account. This seems to allude to her account either being hacked or the screenshot being photoshopped altogether.

To refresh your memory, days ago, Parton weighed in on the Country Music Awards failing to recognize “Cowboy Carter” in its nominations for this year’s ceremony. When speaking to Variety, Parton praised Beyoncé’s album, which she was featured on. However, she proposed that country musicians and their lifelong dedication to the genre may have been on the top of the CMA’s list.
“I don’t think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose. I think it was just more of what the country charts and the country artists were doing, that do that all the time, not just a specialty album,” she told the outlet.
When Bey first announced the album, she firmly stated, “This ain’t a Country album. This is a “Beyoncé” album.” Therefore, it seemed that she was attempting to put her own spin on the genre while still incorporating key elements and artists such as Willie Nelson, Linda Martell, and Parton on the “Jolene” remake. It’s unclear if this was considered when the CMAs made their decision, but they have not spoken out to explain why the singer was excluded.
