The city where Tina Turner once resided is preparing to pay tribute to the iconic music legend.

According to TMZ, Brownsville mayor Bill Rawls Jr. intends to showcase a beautiful statue of Turner in the city.

Mayor Rawls envisions the artwork being positioned in Brownsville’s Heritage Park, close to Carver High School, where Turner attended. It is worth noting that Turner was born in Brownsville and spent a significant portion of her earlier life there.

“When Tina stepped on stage, she owned it,” Mayor Rawls said. “We want this statue to represent that passion. Tina was an inspiration to the entire world … She showed the people of Brownsville no matter where you start. You own your story about where you end up.”

In addition, Brownsville already home to the Tina Turner Museum, so the statue is quite fitting to have positioned right in the heart of her hometown.

The news about the upcoming memorial comes just a few days after the legendary singer passed away at the age of 83. On Thursday, a rep for Turner revealed that she had died from a “long illness.” Shortly before her passing, Turner disclosed that her health was in “great danger.”

“My kidneys are victims of my not realising that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine,” she shared on Instagram. “I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication. For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion.”
