Twenty-three years ago today, the timeless film, “Higher Learning,” was released, bringing awareness to a multitude of things. Director John Singleton used this film to examine the personal, political, and racial challenges a group of college students faced.
This was neither the first or last appearance Ice Cube made on the big screen. Just four years earlier, Cube starred in “Boyz N The Hood,” and produced, wrote, and starred in “Friday” that was released months after “Higher Learning.”

Cube’s role in Higher Learning earned him a nomination for the NAACP Image Award for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in Motion Picture,” but co-star of the film, Laurence Fishburne took it home.

The cast also included Omar Epps, Tyra Banks, Michael Rapaport, Kristy Swanson, and Jennifer Connelly.
