On Wednesday, a Texas mother and an 18-month-old child were accidentally shot by a toddler outside of a Walmart in Granbury.
The gun was discharged by accident on Wednesday outside a Walmart in Granbury.
Authorities say that the 2-year-old took the gun from between a seat and a center console before firing it accidentally. The toddler struck the younger sibling and mother, the New York Post reported.
The 23-year-old mother of the children was standing outside the vehicle next to the driver’s door, and their 26-year-old father was at the rear of the vehicle, police said.
“The bullet went through soft tissue in the [younger child’s] leg, through the mother’s arm, and into her side in her chest area,” Granbury police said in a statement.
Both the mother and 18-month-old child were rushed to hospitals in Fort Worth and were later released. Granbury Police Lt. Russell Grizzard told The Post Thursday that their exact conditions are unknown.
No other injuries or charges were reported.
“It is still too early in the investigation to determine what, if any, criminal charges may be filed,” Grizzard said in an email.
