Tom Brady believes Janet Jackson halftime show wardrobe malfunction was a “good thing for the NFL.”
On a recent episode of Brady’s “Let’s Go!” podcast, the seven-time Super Bowl champ discussed Rihanna’s halftime performance with his co-hosts Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray.
During the conversation, Brady was asked if NFL players participating in the Super Bowl, get a chance to watch the the halftime show. He responded that players are usually too focused on the game to think about the performances.
The quarterback recalled not being aware of Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction during the 2004 Super Bowl game.
“Even, I remember, when we beat Carolina in 2003, we came off the field, and that was when we had the wardrobe malfunction with Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson,” Brady said. “[Reporters] were asking me about that, and I couldn’t even understand what they were telling me about. They were like, ‘Did you see the halftime show?’ and I said, ‘Nah, I didn’t see anything.’ I was thinking about the game and was trying to figure out halftime adjustments. It took a while for us to figure out what had gone on. That’s for the fans and not for the players.”
Brady added that he believed the malfunction benefited the NFL and gave the league more “publicity.”
“I think, in the end, it was probably a good thing for the NFL because everyone got to talk about it,” Brady explained. “And it was just more publicity and more publicity for halftime shows. Is any publicity bad publicity? That’s what they say. So, who knows.”
Nevertheless, Brady praised Rihanna’s performance and despite the negative comments she’s received, the quarterback says she “did a great job.”
“She’s one of the unique performers,” he continued. “It’s great to see people on that stage…that stage of the Super Bowl is reserved for special people. She did a great job.”
