Too $hort Set To Be Honored By Hometown of Oakland With His Own Street, “Too $hort Way”

Oakland, California, is honoring Too $hort with his own street.

For over 40 years, the rapper has made his mark in the Hip-Hop community. Many will deem him an iconic legend in the industry, and he is now receiving his flowers from his hometown.

Because of his well-known status, Oakland City Council, Mayor Libby Schaaf and Councilman Noel Gallo have decided to rename Foothill Boulevard between High Street and 47th Avenue as “Too $hort Way.”

“There’s an understanding that we should recognize him. Based not only on his talent and contributions but also just honoring and respecting those who have come before us and given back to the city,” Gallo said.

The street is alongside the rapper’s alma mater, Fremont High School, a community swimming pool, taco truck and multiple street art murals, including the late rap legend Mac Dre.

Oakland will reveal the new street sign in a ceremony on December 10th. The ceremony will come just a day after the release of Mount Westmore’s self-titled album. The album will include 16 songs, one of which was previously dropped on December 2nd. If you’re not aware, the Hip-Hop supergroup features West Coast legends $hort, E-40, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube.

Too $hort’s music career started as a teenager when he mainly rapped about the struggles of living in East Oakland. The Bay Area rapper is a prominent figure who helped create Oakland’s unique style and sound in the late 1980s. His discography includes 22 albums as well as six platinum and four gold singles.
