With less than a week left of the holiday season, it’s time to binge-watch some holiday movies. Â
As adults, we’re always on the go, so we don’t have as much time to really do all the fun Christmas activities that we enjoyed when we were kids.
So Baller Alert has curated a list of our favorite Christmas movies to put others in the Christmas spirit, especially after the year we have had.
1. This Christmas – Synopsis: The Whitfield family comes together for the holiday season and marks the first time in four years that the eldest sibling has come home after embarking on a quest to fulfill his passion for music in the steps of his father. While the holidays are a time for peace and happiness, the Whitfield’s will have to overcome many obstacles to enjoy their holiday season. 2. The Best Man Holiday – Synopsis: The sequel to The Best Man, released in 1999, follows a group of college friends reuniting under the same roof for the first time in 15 years. This time though, they meet up during the holiday season. Though the group of life-long friends still have issues from their past that they need to work out, and with a member of the group battling an illness, this holiday season will be anything but easy to get through. 3. The Santa Clause – Synopsis: After accidentally killing Santa Claus, Scott Calvin puts on the suit and unknowingly takes on the role of Santa in front of his son. Now he has to figure out how to keep his son from spilling the secret before he tells everyone, and people start to think they’re insane. Stars Tim Allen, Wendy Crewson, David Krumholtz, and more.Â
4. Home Alone – Synopsis: After 8-year-old Kevin McCallister is accidentally left home when his family flies to Paris for Christmas vacation, he is left to defend himself against two burglars. Stars Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, Catherine O’Hara, and more.
5. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus – Synopsis: After catching his mother kiss Santa Clause, a young Justin Carver concludes that his mother is having an affair with Santa and is cheating on her husband, Justin’s father. Stars Dylan & Cole Sprouse and more.
6. Almost Christmas – Synopsis: After retiring months following his wife’s passing, Walter Meyers invites his four grown children home for their traditional Christmas celebration. However, the holiday season isn’t the same without the family’s matriarch, who was the glue that held the family together. Without her, everything is falling apart. Can they pull it all together to enjoy a peaceful Christmas? Stars Danny Glover, Kimberly Elise, Gabriel Union, Roman Malco, Mo’Nique, and more.
7. How The Grinch Stole Christmas – Synopsis: While many of the residents of Whoville enjoy celebrating Christmas, what everyone has in common is their dislike for the Grinch, who despises Christmas and Whos. Stars Jim Carrey, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, and more.
8. Friday After Next – Synopsis: After a robber dressed as Santa Claus breaks into Craig and Day-Day’s apartment, stealing their presents, rent money, and anything else he could fit into his sack, the two are left to take jobs as security guards at a local mall in hopes not to get evicted for Christmas. Stars Ice Cube, Mike Epps, John Whitherspoon, and more.
9. Black Nativity – Synopsis: A young boy from Baltimore raised by a single mother visits his estranged relatives in New York City, where he finds himself on a surprising yet inspirational journey. Stars Jacob Latimore, Mary J. Blige, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Nas, Tyrese, Jennifer Hudson, Rotimi, and more.
10. Last Holiday – Synopsis: After bumping her head on a cabinet door while flirting with her co-worker, Georgia Byrd is then taken to the health center for a CAT scan, where she is told she has several brain tumors and only has a few weeks to live. Georgia then vows to live the remainder of her life to the fullest and takes a dream vacation to the Czech Republic to spend what will be her last holiday season. 11. The Perfect Holiday – Synopsis: After a divorced mother of three who feels especially lonely during the holidays’ daughter senses her mother’s sadness. She then asks a department-store Santa to pay her mother a compliment in an attempt to make her mother happy. The department-store Santa knows just the right words to say. Starring Gabrielle Union, Morris Chestnut, Faizon Love, Katt Williams, Terrence Howard, Queen Latifah, and more.
12. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas – Synopsis: Madea embarks on a Christmas journey and accompanies her niece, Eileen, to pay a surprise visit to Eileen’s daughter Lacey after refusing to come home for Christmas. Lacey refuses to come home because she’s secretly married a white classmate from college her mother would disapprove of. Stars Tyler Perry, Tika Sumpter, Anna Maria Horsford, and more.
13. Holiday Heart – Synopsis: Following the loss of his police officer lover, Christian drag queen Holiday Heart finds a newfound purpose after stumbling across 12-year-old Niki and her drug-addicted mother. Stars Ving Rhames, Alfre Woodard, Mykelti Williamson, and Jesika Reynolds.
14. A Diva’s Christmas Carol – Synopsis: After An Ego-driven diva loses her holiday spirit, the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future pay her a visit. Stars Vanessa L. Williams, Chilli, Kathy Griffin, and more.
15. The Preacher’s Wife – Synopsis: When a cleric begins to doubt himself, he is then paid a visit by an angel who is a heavenly emissary on a mission to help the good reverend over his midlife crisis. However, he becomes distracted by the cleric’s lovely wife. Stars Denzel Washington, Whitney Houston, Jenifer Lewis, and more.Â
16. Jingle All The Way – Synopsis: In an attempt to make things right with his son Howard Langston promises to get his son Jamie the hottest toy of the holiday season, Turbo-Man. However, the issue is it’s Christmas Eve, and the toy is basically sold out. Stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rita Wilson, and Jake Lloyd.
17. The Polar Express – Synopsis: When a young boy starts to doubt if Santa Claus is real, he embarks on an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole. He also rediscovers himself, allowing him to finally see that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. Stars Tom Hanks and more.
18. A Christmas Story – Synopsis: Youngster Ralphie Parker spends most of his time dodging a bully and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift, a “Red Ryder air rifle.” While Ralphie is always at odds with his father, he is comforted by his mother. However, Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas day with his glasses and hopes intact. Stars Peter Billingsley, Darren McGavin, Zack Ward, and Melinda Dillon.
19. Are We There Yet – Synopsis: In an attempt to win the heart of newly divorced Suzanne, Nick offers to bring her children Kevin and Lindsey on a flight from Portland, Oregon, to Canada to spend Christmas with their mother. However, after many setbacks, the three have to drive the whole way there. The only problem is the kids aren’t too fond of Nick. Will they make it in time? Stars Nia Long, Ice Cube, Aleisha Allen, Phillip Daniel Bolden, Jay Mohr, and Tracy Morgan.
20. Elf – Synopsis: After accidentally being transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves, Buddy cannot shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in with everyone else. Buddy then travels to New York in full uniform in an attempt to find his birth father. Stars Will Ferrell, James Caan, and more.
21. Christmas With the Kranks – Synopsis: Luther and Nora Krank, finally alone for the holiday, plan to ditch their Christmas traditions and take a cruise this year to the Caribbean instead. However, this plan doesn’t sit well with their Christmas-obsessed neighbors, who have become determined to win the annual “best-decorated street” competition. With their lack of Christmas spirit, the Kranks find themselves as social outcasts. Stars Tim Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis, and more.
