Tory Lanez is asking to be allowed to speak publicly on his assault case involving Megan Thee Stallion.
According to Complex, legal documents in the case show that Lanez has asked the court to modify the protection order he’s under that prevents him from publicly addressing their ongoing legal battle.
His motion argues that it is unfair to him as Megan has repeatedly used her platform to address the case—sharing “inflammatory information” on social media, while Lanez is restricted from doing the same.
Lanez’s legal team maintains that they have received evidence that contradicts Megan’s statements about the July 12, 2020 shooting incident, when Lanez allegedly shot Megan during an argument in the Hollywood Hills.
The evidence is alleged to include eyewitness testimony as well as “gunshot residue implicating others,” which Lanez is currently not allowed to “disclose outside the legal process.”
The protective order also restricts Lanez from contacting Megan on social media. His attorneys are arguing this prevents him from responding directly to Meg’s “inflammatory statements” or clarifying any misinformation.
The motion specifically referenced a recent report that Lanez’s assault charges had been dropped, where Meg suggested to her fans that Lanez and his legal team were spreading “fake news.”
“[Lanez’s] failure to respond to [Megan’s] inflammatory and misleading statements may be interpreted as conceding to her claims. Nothing can be further from the truth,” Lanez’s motion stated. It also explained that Meg’s claims would be disputed and contradicted by their evidence.
