Tory Lanez will take the next step in his legal challenges this summer.
The California Court of Appeals has set August 18 for oral arguments in his bid to overturn the 10-year prison sentence tied to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. The hearing will take place at 9 a.m. in Los Angeles.
The decision to move forward with oral arguments comes nearly two years after Lanez was convicted on multiple felony counts. The charges stemmed from an incident in which Megan was shot in the foot following an argument outside a Hollywood Hills party.
Lanez has consistently maintained his innocence. His legal team has argued that the conviction should be overturned, but his earlier request for bail pending the appeal was denied. The court cited possible flight risk and other concerns in its decision to keep him in custody during the process.
The case has continued to generate widespread attention, attracting the involvement of political figures.
Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has publicly called for Lanez’s release. She claims that new DNA analysis and Ring camera footage raise serious questions about the prosecution’s case.
Luna has criticized the trial as being “largely driven by headlines” and has said she is working with lawmakers from both political parties, including California Democrats, to petition Governor Gavin Newsom for a pardon.
Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team has responded firmly to these claims. They have dismissed the new evidence arguments as “false and misleading narratives” promoted by Lanez’s supporters.
According to her attorneys, the evidence presented during the trial was strong, and the conviction remains justified.
The upcoming appeal hearing will be a pivotal moment in determining whether Lanez’s conviction and sentence remain in place. All eyes will be on Los Angeles in August as the court reviews the case.
