Tory Lanez‘s request for bond has been rejected by a Los Angeles court judge, meaning he will stay in prison while awaiting his appeal.

The decision was made by Judge David Herriford, who, according to Meghann Cuniff, a reporter present at the hearing, denied Tory Lanez’s request for bail. This comes after Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison last month for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, following three years of legal disputes. Lanez sought bail while appealing his convictions on three felony counts related to the incident.

Lanez’s legal team had hoped for probation, while the prosecutors had pushed for a 13-year sentence. However, the final ruling landed at a 10-year prison sentence.

After receiving his sentence, Lanez used Instagram to state his innocence, expressing his determination to continue fighting until he prevails. He acknowledged taking responsibility for the “verbal and intimate moments” shared with those involved but maintained his innocence regarding the actual shooting. He clarified that his previous statements were not an apology for the charges he believes he’s wrongly convicted of, firmly standing by his position that he won’t apologize for something he did not commit.

The shooting took place on July 12, 2020, following a departure from a party hosted at Kylie Jenner’s residence, with Tory Lanez, Megan Thee Stallion, and their friend Kelsey Harris present. Prosecutors alleged that during an argument, Megan exited the vehicle, and Lanez fired shots at her feet while yelling, “Dance, b*tch!” Initially, Megan had stated that her injury resulted from stepping on broken glass, but later, she revealed that she had been shot. Lanez was ultimately charged in connection with the shooting in October 2022.
