New unsealed emails show that Tory Lanez’s initial lawyer advised against pinning the Megan Thee Stallion shooting on Kelsey Harris.
Never before seen emails have been made available to legal reporter Meghann Cuniff after Lanez waived his attorney-client privilege. Lawyer Shawn Holley, who quit Lanez’s defense team last year, told the singer that going after Harris was not wise.
“As we discussed on Saturday, I am not comfortable advancing the ‘Kelsy Defense,’ primarily because I don’t find it to be a viable strategy,” Holly wrote in an email dated November 21st, 2022.
Despite her advice, Lanez’s legal team maintained that on the evening of July 12th, 2020, when the shooting took place, Harris shot at her former friends five times as Meg attempted to leave the SUV they were all traveling in after an argument. Meg sustained wounds to her feet, initially claiming she stepped on glass in an effort to protect the group as police approached the Cadillac Escalade.
Lanez was ultimately convicted in December of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, possession of a concealed, unregistered firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm. Prosecutors are seeking at least 13 years behind bars for Lanez. As his team tries frantically to free him, Lanez has been denied a new trial in the case. Last month, his defense lawyers also moved to have Judge David Herriford disqualified from the attorney. He is now scheduled to be sentenced on August 7th, though that date has been moved several times.
