Tory Lanez has spent over a year in prison following his conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot during a 2020 dispute.
In 2023, he received a 10-year sentence. Though eligible for parole in late 2029, several of his supporters are calling for the case to be reconsidered entirely.
Former New Jersey lawmaker Jamel Holley recently submitted a clemency petition to Governor Gavin Newsom.
In it, he accused the justice system of mishandling the case. “I humbly implore you to exercise your authority…to grant clemency, correcting a grave injustice and safeguarding a life,” the petition states. He also criticized the trial’s outcome, claiming the verdict was built on “unstable foundations.”
Jack Brewer, a former NFL player and White House advisor, also voiced his concerns publicly. He framed the issue as part of a larger problem with family separation and the criminal system. “As an advocate for 2nd Chance Fathers, I can’t stay silent about Tory Lanez,” he wrote. “This is another broken case that points to someone else, another father is lost to a system that rewards headlines over truth.”
Brewer argued that the response would be different under other circumstances. “If Tory was an illegal alien there would be protests in the streets,” he wrote. He then appealed directly to Newsom: “You have the power to right this wrong. This is bigger than one man… I’m asking you to lead with courage, compassion, and fairness. Bring a father home.”
Although the shooting happened in 2020 and was highly publicized, Lanez and his supporters continue to question how the case was handled. They argue the sentence was too harsh and believe the court failed to weigh all relevant facts.
Megan’s attorney, Alex Spiro, issued a statement calling out the politicians for failing to research the case in its entirety.
“The Tory Lanez case is a case of a violent crime with an unlicensed firearm of a defenseless woman who was shot multiple times. The gun was found cocked, hot, and at the feet of the defendant. Witnesses immediately confirmed the defendant was the shooter. The defendant apologized for what he did. These politicians should have reviewed the evidence and thought about the crime’s survivor. But they didn’t. They decided it was more important to chase attention for themselves,” Spiro shared in a statement with Baller Alert.
If denied parole, Lanez could remain in prison until 2033.
Still, his family maintains that release could come much sooner.
