Tory Lanez is fighting back against Megan Thee Stallion’s restraining order request.
In a new complaint filed on December 24th, Lanez accuses the “Hot Girl Summer” star of using the justice system to make a “frivolous” request for a civil harassment restraining order. The motion argues that Megan has “improperly decided” to involve the Los Angeles County civil court, even though Lanez has had “zero direct contact” with her.
Lanez’s legal team claims that celebrities, such as Megan, “weaponize the justice system” when they disagree with public opinions.
“When celebrity with millions of dollars and backed by large corporations disagrees with free speech or opinions, they weaponize the justice system,” the complaint states. It also argues that the California Code of Civil Procedure prohibits restraining orders that restrict “constitutionally protected speech.”
The complaint goes further, accusing Megan of using the legal system to silence Lanez’s comments. “Rather than rebut the commentary or debate the issues raised, Plaintiff has succumbed to the current trend of using the legal system to cancel those opinions.”
Earlier this month, Megan requested the restraining order, claiming Lanez harassed her through social media and third parties, including blogger Milagro Gramz. Megan alleged that the harassment caused her “severe emotional distress” and “reputational harm.”
Lanez, who is serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan in 2020, maintains that he is no longer a threat and has had no direct contact with her. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 9 for a hearing regarding the restraining order.
