Travis Scott’s lawyer has addressed concerns about the timing of a report released by the Houston Police Department in 2021, which pertained to the tragic deaths that occurred at Astroworld.
As reported by TMZ, Kent Schaffer issued a statement criticizing the Houston Police Department’s decision to release the report on the same day Travis Scott’s new album “Utopia” was released.
“The timing of the Houston Police Department report’s release, coinciding with the launch of Travis Scott’s highly anticipated album, is anything but coincidental,” Schaffer said.
He added, “Travis’s commitment to his audience’s safety and well-being is well-documented. As reported countless times, he actively stopped the show three separate times. Contrary to the HPD report’s inaccuracies, the concert did end at the exact time communicated to Travis. Meanwhile, Houston police officers present at the event did not intervene during the unfolding situation.”
On November 5, 2021, Scott kicked off the opening night of his Astroworld concert. Tragically, by the conclusion of the evening, eight individuals lost their lives. Additionally, hundreds of others sustained injuries after approximately 50,000 concertgoers surged toward the stage.
According to reports, Scott allegedly had no knowledge of the events unfolding around him during the concert. However, numerous civil lawsuits have been filed against him in relation to the incident, and they are still pending. Nevertheless, a Texas grand jury decided not to bring criminal charges against Scott in the case related to the Astroworld tragedy. The rapper did not testify in his own defense during the grand jury hearing. It’s important to note that the outcome of the criminal case will not affect the ongoing civil cases that are currently being litigated.
