Trey Songz is involved in another lawsuit that originates from a previous sexual assault lawsuit. According to Rolling Stones, Jane Doe filed a $25 million lawsuit against Songz, his label Atlantic Records, his manager Kevin Liles, and 300 Entertainment. The unnamed woman claims all parties, outside of Songz, are included in the suit for ignoring the many assault allegations against him throughout the years.
“This case is much more than about one singer and one viciously abused sexual assault survivor who has the courage to take action,” Doe’s attorney George Vrabeck says. “It’s also very much about the systematic sexual abuse in the music industry and the music industry’s complicity in silencing sexual abuse survivors. It’s virtually impossible to believe that those executives are not and were not aware of the institutionalized sexual abuse.”
Last February, Doe filed a suit against Songz for allegedly sodomizing her during a party in March 2016. Doe says the two were partying together in Los Angeles when Songz took her to a bedroom. According to Doe, she believed the encounter was going to be consensual. However, she claims Songz threw her to the ground and anally raped her despite her attempts to scream for help. The lawsuit was dismissed in November after Songz’s team argued the claim exceeded the statute of limitations.
Nevertheless, Doe pointed out that she was not the first woman to bring allegations against Songz. The singer recently turned himself in to the police after being accused of punching a man and a woman at a bowling alley last November. The woman told authorities that Songz had “dragged her by her hair” after she tried to stop him from going inside a woman’s bathroom with a woman from his crew.
