Well if this isn’t one of the silliest things to sue over it seems that Trey Songz is taking legal action against a TV Star’s use of the word “Yuuup!”. Obviously no one has used the word “Yup” before Trigga…clearly.
Trey’s lawyers served Dave Hester of A&E’s “Storage Wards” a cease and desist ordering him to stop using the word “Yuuup!” on the show and stop selling merchandise with the slogan. Songz claims this to be his slogan since 2009.
Don’t think Hester is going down without a fight, he is filing a suit agains the singer arguing that he is using the word “Yuuup!” in a very different way than Songz uses it.
According to Singersroom
According to Hester’s lawsuit, he claims that Songz’ version “resembles an animal-like or non-human squeal which begins with a distinct ‘yeeee’ sound before finishing with a squeal-like ‘uuuup’ sound.”
The court documents continue to explain that Songz’ version is “distinct and different from Hester’s more monosyllabic sounding guttural auction bidding phrase … which is meant to convey the meaning of ‘yes.’ ” In other words, Hester’s use of the phrase is simply his way of saying “yes,” unlike Songz.
Hester is seeking unspecified damages and a court order preventing Songz from interfering with his usage of the phrase, which Hester claims to have trademarked back in September.
Come on Trey, you really expect us to believe that this guy stole “Yuuup!” from you? I highly doubt he’s out here listening to “Neighbors Know My Name” so I doubt even more that he took the slogan from you or that you can stop him from saying it. Good try though!
