Trey Songz has scored a win in a recent sexual assault lawsuit against him.
Last week, a federal judge granted Songz’s motion to dismiss the suit filed by a woman who claimed he pulled her bikini top down at a party. According to the plaintiff, identified only as Jane Doe, she was attending a pool party in 2013 that Songz was also at. As they partied together, she says the “Neighbors Know My Name” crooner exposed her breast without her consent as other partygoers looked on. She claimed Songz and the crowd began chanting while she was embarrassed over the ordeal. Her case also named music executive Kevin Liles and Atlantic Records for enabling Songz’s actions and failing to act despite having knowledge of his harmful actions against women.
Songz fired back at the woman, who was demanding $10 million in damages. According to his legal team, the lawsuit was filed past the statute of limitations. The judge also acknowledged that while Doe did have ten years to file in California, she had still missed the window, thus tossing out the lawsuit. This is the latest claim against Songz that was dismissed. Last year, a Las Vegas judge also rejected a rape lawsuit stemming from a 2016 hotel incident. Songz also denied these allegations.
Songz is still facing a lawsuit from another woman named Jauhara Jeffries. She contends he assaulted her in 2018. However, the singer says a witness who was present can back his claims that Jeffries was not harmed, even though he admitted to kicking her out of his car once he realized she was recording him. That case has not yet been resolved.
