Trey Songz has been hit with a $11.2 million judgment after a Maryland police officer alleged the singer and his security team attacked him during a 2021 altercation at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Officer Tyrelle Dunn, a Maryland Capitol police officer, stated that the incident began when his wife was escorted to Songz’s hotel room under the pretense of meeting the artist. According to the lawsuit, Dunn’s wife later screamed for help, claiming she was being held against her will and assaulted. When Dunn attempted to intervene, he says he was brutally attacked by Songz and his security team.
Dunn detailed the aftermath of the alleged assault, which left him with fractures to both eye sockets and injuries to his face, ribs, ear, and head. He missed over a month of work and continues to suffer from physical and emotional trauma, according to his affidavit. A photo included in court documents shows graphic injuries Dunn claims he sustained during the attack.
The incident was reported to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, but by March 2022, the department announced Songz would not face criminal charges. However, Dunn pursued a civil case, resulting in a judgment that included $28,000 for medical expenses, $5 million for pain and suffering, $5 million in punitive damages, and $1.2 million in prejudgment interest.
Court documents show that Songz was served with the lawsuit at his California home in August 2023 but failed to respond, leading to a default judgment.
This ruling adds to a growing list of legal troubles for the R&B singer. Over the years, Songz has faced numerous allegations, including sexual assault, battery, and other misconduct. Recent lawsuits include allegations of a 2016 sexual assault in California and accusations from a woman claiming Songz exposed her at a Connecticut event in 2013.
Songz’s representatives have yet to comment on the judgment. Despite ongoing legal challenges, the artist remains active in his career, with performances scheduled as part of “The Millennium Tour,” including an April 2025 stop in Las Vegas.
