Ohio police are urging trick-or-treaters to check their candy after a child found a sewing needle stuck in a KitKat bar. The affected candy was received on Saturday during a citywide trick-or-treating event.
“We’ve all heard of these types of things happening, but to actually have someone do this in our community is truly disturbing,” the Fostoria Police Division said in a social media post. “This sewing needle was located by an observant child who reported receiving it after Trick-or-Treating….”
USA Today reports that police initially thought it was an isolated incident until a second call came in. The second child found a needle in a bag of Sour Patch Kids.
“Although we only are aware of two pieces of candy being involved, we take this seriously and are appalled that anyone would be so demented as to want to hurt children in our community,” said Police Chief Keith Loreno.
A local hospital gave parents the option to bring in candy for an x-ray screening on Monday.
The two children involved were unrelated, and the locations where the candy was handed out are unknown. Thankfully, neither child was hurt.
