On Friday, Trina is set to release her sixth studio album, “The One,” which also serves as her first full-length project in nine years. Ahead of the release, Da Baddest chopped it up with Baller Alert to share what to expect on the album, which she recently described as “just fun, truth, growth and maturity; beyond the ‘Na’an’ & ‘Baddest Bitch’ phase.”
“It’s been way too long,” Trina said. “My album was posta been come out four years ago, I had a lot of issues from clearances and different stuff like that. But, it’s all done, it’s final. The album is coming out….I’m excited.”
As she continued, Da Baddest also listed her features, which include 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and more, and opened up about the process in creating the new project, which is set to be released on June 21st. Trina also revealed plans for a tour, which is reportedly set to kick off “real soon after the album drops.”
“I think it’s just about me being true to myself and staying true to who I am,” Trina said, as she explained how she’s able to still resonate with fans two decades later. “I feel like, it’s relative to what’s happening right now. It’s reality. So I think the music right now – for the new fans that doesn’t know me and probably haven’t heard Trina records and you haven’t heard the popular artists on the album that you do know – probably bring you in and understand [what Trina] is all about.”
“I think I’ve changed a lot. I’m super grown, I’ve evolved,” Da Baddest said of her growth, as she opened up about her new record label and being independent. “Independent now is the best thing because you get all your money. But it’s a lot of work. You have to do all the work, I’m used to having it done for me and I just gotta show up and do my thing. But now, I’m the CEO; I’m the boss, I’m the artist, I’m the creator, I’m the visionary, I’m all of these people in one.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Trina opened up about her relationship and shared a few pieces of advice for new artists. “Continue to kick ass,” she said.
