Tristan Thompson has weighed in on the shocking Trae Young encounter with a fan and reminds spectators of the sport that he is not the one to try.
“I dare a motherf—– to spit on me,” the Celtics forward stated while speaking with the media. “I’ll follow you right to your house.”
His stern warning comes after Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young was spat on by a New York Knicks fan during Wednesday’s game at Madison Square Garden. Authorities have since identified the fan and banned him from the stadium.
Thompson believes that fans who lash out against players should face harsher punishments such as a “criminal fine.” He believes that simply losing tickets is not enough.
“Because if you spit on someone down the street, don’t you get fined or arrested or some [stuff] like that? If you spit on people in the arena, and you can’t spit on people on the street, it should be the same protocol, I think.”
Fan attacks have been on the rise in recent days. Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook had popcorn dumped on his head during Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center. That fan has also been banned from the arena.
