The Trump administration is considering a broad travel ban that could impact citizens from dozens of countries, including Haiti and Cuba, according to an internal government memo. The proposal divides 41 nations into three categories, each facing different levels of U.S. visa restrictions.
Under the strictest measures, citizens from 10 countries; including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Syria, could face a complete suspension of U.S. visas. A second group, which includes Haiti, Eritrea, Laos, Myanmar, and South Sudan, would be subject to partial restrictions, limiting access to tourist, student, and some immigrant visas. Meanwhile, 26 other countries, such as Pakistan and Belarus, risk partial suspensions unless their governments improve security measures within 60 days.
A U.S. official confirmed that the list is still under review and could change. The proposal stems from an executive order Trump issued on January 20th, requiring stricter security screening for foreign travelers. His administration has pushed for tougher immigration policies since the start of his second term.
While the travel restrictions haven’t been finalized, they signal a major shift in U.S. immigration policy that could significantly impact travelers and immigrants from affected nations.
