Trump continues to push for his dream to be a ‘wartime president.’ Last week, Trump talked with senior advisers about attacking an Iranian nuclear site after reading a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency. Trump was discouraged from pursuing any attacks by his advisers.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) published a report detailing Iran’s stockpile of low-enriched uranium. Apparently, Iran’s stockpile is over two tons. According to BBC, the report said that Iran’s uranium stockpile is 12 times what is permitted under a 2015 nuclear deal. In 2015, Iran and several world powers (United States, United Kingdom, France, China, Russia, and Germany) agreed on a long-term deal on Iran’s nuclear program. Iran agreed that if economic sanctions were removed, it would limit its nuclear activities and allow international inspectors to conduct inspections at its facilities. In 2018, President Trump walked away from the deal, calling it “defective at its core.”
Earlier this year, the United States and Iran were almost headed to war after President Trump ordered a drone strike in Iraq that killed Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani. Trump said the commander was the reason that hundreds of American soldiers died. Iran retaliated by firing ballistic missiles at military bases where American soldiers were living. Although no Americans were killed, many suffered severe brain damage.
Joe Biden says he would like to re-join the nuclear deal as long as Iran plans to be fully compliant and commit to negotiations.
