Donald Trump offered rare words of support on Sunday following the news that former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
The message came just after Biden’s personal office released a statement confirming the diagnosis: “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
Trump joins several Republicans who publicly offered sympathy, despite his ongoing criticism of Biden. Just two days prior, Trump had called Biden “hapless and cognitively impaired” following the leak of 2023 special counsel Robert Hur’s interview audio, where Biden appeared to struggle recalling key moments.
For now, Americans are eager to hear from Biden directly, with millions across the country wishing him well.
