Trump, in an effort to exile all undocumented immigrants, has described his administration’s actions as a “military operation,” sparking confusion among Americans.
“We’re getting really bad dudes out of this country, and at a rate that nobody’s ever seen before,” Trump said Thursday in a meeting with business leaders at the White House. “And they’re the bad ones. And it’s a military operation.”
“You see what’s happening at the border. All of a sudden for the first time, we’re getting gang members out. We’re getting drug lords out,” Trump added.
Trump’s words led many to believe that he would be moving in the military to deport undocumented immigrants, similar to the threat he sent to the midwest, in an attempt to stop the violence in Chicago. However, soon after Trump’s speech, a White House spokesperson stepped in to clarify the Head of State’s wording.
“The President was clearly describing the orderly and professional manner in which his executive orders are being implemented,” the spokesperson said of Trump’s military comment. “And, the administration’s emphasis on removing serious criminals here in the US illegally.”
Despite Trump’s wording, the administration has denied any reports claiming the National Guard will step in for deportation.
However, as per Trump’s instruction, many undocumented immigrants who may have previously been protected are now subject to deportation.
“Everybody who is here illegally is subject to removal at any time,” Sean Spicer said. “That is consistent with every country, not just ours. If you’re in this country in an illegal manner, that obviously there’s a provision that could ensure that you be removed.”
