Donald Trump is coming to the defense of Elon Musk, claiming that efforts to boycott Tesla are both illegal and politically motivated.
In a social media post, Trump accused “Radical Left Lunatics” of trying to collusively target the electric car company in an attempt to harm Musk and his influence.
Trump praised Musk for “putting it on the line” for the country, calling him a “truly great American.” He even announced that he plans to buy a brand-new Tesla as a show of support for the billionaire.
The president drew comparisons between attacks on Musk and his own political battles, claiming that similar forces tried to take him down in the 2024 election but ultimately failed.
While Trump insists that boycotting Tesla is unlawful, legal experts would likely debate that claim, as consumer boycotts are generally considered protected free speech. However, Trump seems to be arguing that organized and coordinated efforts against Tesla could cross legal lines.
This latest statement comes amid increasing scrutiny of Musk, whose leadership of Tesla and X (formerly Twitter) has sparked controversy, particularly regarding free speech and political bias.
