Two months after Donald Trump mentioned a possible pardon for Sean “Diddy” Combs, the idea is now being taken more seriously.
According to a source speaking to Deadline, a comprehensive release for Combs is now being “seriously considered.”
In recent weeks, several close associates of the music mogul have been in contact with the White House.
These discussions, combined with his partial guilty verdict earlier this month in New York, have shifted the conversation from casual speculation to a matter actively under review. While the topic has moved forward, insiders stress that no decision will be official until Trump formally approves it.
This development comes as Combs awaits sentencing on two Mann Act convictions. He was cleared of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, but remains in custody ahead of formal sentencing.
Meanwhile, his attorneys continue to challenge his detention. In a motion filed Tuesday, the defense argued that his incarceration is unjustified, pointing out that no other individual is currently imprisoned under the Mann Act for consensual sex.
The filing argues that Combs’ action, consensual encounters involving payment within a personal relationship, do not warrant imprisonment.
“There has literally never been a case like this one […] Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct,” the motion stated.
His lawyers also contend that the government’s pursuit contradicts standard Justice Department policy, which typically targets organized commercial exploitation rather than personal arrangements.
