In a post-election interview with NBC’s ‘Meet The Press,’ President-elect Donald Trump shared his opinion on why he scored victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. According to Trump, two pivotal issues are to credit for his success: border control and the rising cost of groceries.
“I won on the border, and I won on groceries,” Trump said. Highlighting the struggles everyday individuals feel, Trump referred to the rising grocery prices as the main focus of his campaign.
“Very simple word, groceries,” Trump continued. “When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time, and I won an election based on that.”
During the conversation, Trump reiterated his commitment to lowering grocery prices “starting day one.” On his campaign trail, Trump consistently spoke on the increasing cost of groceries under the Biden-Harris administration. As a result, Trump has decided to impose hefty tariff taxes on imports to combat the issue.
Meanwhile, Harris argued that the tariff will ultimately act as a “sale tax” on Americans due to rising goods prices. However, in his latest interview, Trump was asked if his tax policy would come at a cost to Americans, to which he responded, “I can’t guarantee anything.”
