Before Donald Trump’s release from the hospital where he was being treated for COVID-19, coins commemorating his survival of the virus were available to pre-order.
The “Trump Defeats COVID” coin is for sale on the White House gift shop’s website for $100, as part of a series of coins designed by Anthony Giannini, chairman of the White House gift shop, USA Today reports.
“For these past four years, I have created and co-designed the Historic Moments in World History Coin Art, Narrative Series, a series that chronicles historic moments in the unique presidency of President Donald J. Trump,” Giannini said.
“When we first heard the sad news of President Trump’s positive COVID test, once again, we had faith and prayed, but we knew our President would find a way to knockout COVID in early rounds of this battle,” Giannini continued. “President Trump, as you know, is a fan of boxing, and the new design includes more than a hint of superhero qualities in history’s most fascinating president.”
On Monday evening, Trump left Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to return to the White House after three days of treatment. His doctors said he “met or exceeded” discharge criteria and could be released for further treatment at home in the White House.
On Monday afternoon, Trump tweeted not to “be afraid of the COVID” and “don’t let it dominate your life,” undermining the seriousness of COVID-19, which has claimed the lives of 210,000 Americans.
