The House voted today to impeach Donald Trump for a second time, charging him with “incitement of insurrection” for his part in last week’s riots at the US Capitol that left five people dead.
“The president of the United States incited this insurrection and this armed rebellion,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Trump will likely stay in office with just enough time to finish out his singular term as President because it will take a Senate conviction to remove him even after he’s been impeached by the House.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is considering supporting Trump’s conviction when it comes to a trial in the Senate, which will be January 19th, one day before Trump leaves the White House.
