Donald Trump declared a tentative ceasefire between Israel and Iran, presenting it as proof that his controversial decision to strike Iranian nuclear sites was the right move.
“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE,” Trump announced on Truth Social.
Though several sources have reported that Iran accepted the ceasefire deal, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi offered a more cautious take, stating, “As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,” though he added Iran would halt attacks if Israel did so first.
Trump dubbed the conflict the “12-day war,” echoing the name of the 1967 Six-Day War. His proposed ceasefire includes a phased approach: Iran would stop first, then Israel 12 hours later.
“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!” Trump said.
A senior White House official revealed that Trump coordinated with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Iran through intermediaries, with Qatar playing a key role. Iran’s missile strike on a U.S. base in Qatar followed the U.S. airstrikes but caused minimal damage.
JD Vance said this moment could be a “reset” for the region, while White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed Trump “has accomplished what no other president in history could.”
