Trump revealed that the United States will “take over” the Gaza Strip, a move that could involve deploying American troops and would force the displacement of over a million Palestinians.

Speaking during a joint press conference on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump laid out his vision for Gaza, describing plans to clear the area of weapons and rebuild it into a new “Riviera.”
“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” Trump declared. “We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings.”
When asked directly whether he was willing to deploy U.S. troops to fill the security vacuum in Gaza, Trump did not rule out the possibility.
“As far as Gaza is concerned, we’ll do what is necessary. If it’s necessary, we’ll do that. We’re going to take over that piece, and we’re going to develop it,” he said, signaling the potential for military involvement in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
Perhaps most controversially, Trump suggested that the Palestinians currently living in Gaza should leave, a proposal that would add to the decades-long displacement of Palestinian people. The Gaza Strip is home to more than two million Palestinians, many of whom are already refugees from previous conflicts.
Trump’s vision doesn’t stop at dismantling weapons and clearing debris. He described plans to transform the war-torn area into a hub of economic development, promising jobs and housing.
“We’ll level it out, create economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area,” Trump said, calling for a “real job” to be done in Gaza that would break from what he described as “the same way it has been for 100 years.”
The proposal has already triggered shockwaves globally. The potential for American troop involvement adds another layer of complexity, as it could deepen U.S. entanglement in Middle Eastern conflicts and further destabilize the region.
