Former President Donald Trump is calling for the reinstatement of the controversial “stop and frisk” policy as part of his anti-crime platform, despite its history of disproportionately targeting Black and brown communities. This policing tactic, which allows officers to stop and search individuals randomly for weapons, left many men of color physically and mentally scarred, leading to widespread distrust of law enforcement.
In 2013, a federal judge ruled “stop and frisk” unconstitutional, effectively banning its use. Lawyers and advocates had long argued against the policy, highlighting its discriminatory impact and the trauma it caused.
However, Trump remains undeterred. On his campaign website, he stated, “I will insist that local jurisdictions return to proven common sense policing measures, such as stop and frisk. Very simple.” Trump also suggested that police departments risk losing critical federal funding if they do not comply with his proposed measures.
