Donald Trump’s latest entertainment interest has reportedly moved from the political stage to Hollywood, where he is pushing for one of the most beloved action comedy franchises of the late nineties to make a comeback.
Multiple outlets report that Trump has privately urged Paramount Skydance to prioritize a “Rush Hour” revival if the studio succeeds in its bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. Semafor noted that Trump “personally pressed” the studio to consider bringing Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker back together for a long awaited fourth installment. Paramount Skydance is owned by the Ellison family, whom Trump is close with, and a source familiar with the conversations said the President was especially enthusiastic about the idea.
Trump’s reported film wish list does not end there. He also expressed admiration for the 1988 Jean Claude Van Damme cult classic “Bloodsport,” a title that now sits in the Amazon MGM catalogue. His fondness for high energy action films aligns with comments from producer Dallas Sonnier, who predicted that a Paramount victory could spark “a wave of classically male driven movies with mentally tough, traditional, courageous, confident heroes. Maybe even a tad cocky, but dedicated to honor and duty. Plus, of course, a few explosions, gun battles, helicopters, fistfights, and car chases!”
Rush Hour first premiered in 1998 and earned more than $200 million worldwide. Jackie Chan recently said he is open to returning for a fourth film but joked that time is running out. “Hurry up. Otherwise Chris Tucker and me will be 100 years old. We will be old men doing ‘Rush Hour.’”
