Donald Trump held a tech summit at Trump Tower on Wednesday and invited a few big wigs to attend.Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, Tesla’s Elon Musk, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg and Apple’s Tim Cook were among the attendees. Notably missing was a representative from Twitter.
One would think Twitter would receive the first invite to the summit, considering that is the president-elect’s favorite method of communication. However, rumor has it that a failed emoji deal got the social media giant’s invite yanked.
According to Politico, Twitter was bounced from Wednesday’s meeting in retribution for Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey refusing to allow an anti-Clinton emoji version of the hashtag #CrookedHillary during the campaign. Apparently Dorsey personally stepped in to reject the emoji, which would have shown small bags of money being stolen next to the hashtag.
Sources close to Trump say the failed emoji deal is not why Twitter wasn’t invited. In fact, they say Twitter just isn’t big enough. With a market cap of $13.85 billion, it is smaller than Tesla, the smallest company at the meeting, who had a market cap of $31.92 billion.
Who knows what the real story is? Maybe Donald Trump will tweet about it.
