Donald Trump says a deal is coming and TikTok isn’t getting banned just yet.
With the April 5 deadline looming, Trump told reporters a deal with TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, will be made before then.
“I’d like to see TikTok remain alive,” he said.
Back in January, Trump set the deadline for TikTok to either sell to a non-Chinese buyer or get banned over national security concerns. Now, he’s open to extending it if needed to finalize the sale.
The administration is expected to announce a grace period, at least 30 days, while they work out the details. ByteDance may even keep a small stake in the app.
Trump also hinted that he might cut China some slack on tariffs if they play nice with the TikTok deal.
For now, TikTok’s 170 million U.S. users can keep scrolling, but the deal hasn’t been made just yet.
