Donald Trump is suing The Wall Street Journal, claiming the outlet falsely reported he wrote a lewd birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003. The lawsuit, filed Friday, targets Rupert Murdoch, News Corp, Dow Jones CEO Robert Thomson, and WSJ reporters Khadeeja Safdar and Joseph Palazzolo.
The complaint alleges “false, defamatory, and malignant statements” were published, with Trump seeking at least $10 billion in damages. It highlights the article’s reach, saying “hundreds of millions of people” saw the story, which featured a message: “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret,” alongside a nude sketch and Trump’s signature.
Trump slammed the piece on Truth Social, calling it “FAKE NEWS” and “a POWERHOUSE Lawsuit.” He denied writing the note, labeling it “a fake thing.” He added, “I look forward to getting Rupert Murdoch to testify.”
Dow Jones defended its reporting, stating, “We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit.”
The lawsuit arrives as Trump’s past links to Epstein continue to surface, although he has not been accused of wrongdoing. Epstein’s infamous social circle and documents have repeatedly drawn attention to Trump’s name, including mentions in flight logs and Epstein’s contact book.
