Supporters of Donald Trump are among the groups that have applied for permits to hold protests on January 20th during Joe Biden’s inauguration in D.C.
According to Wavy, it is highly unlikely that the applications will be approved as the National Park Service is restricting protests as part of a major security lockdown.
The NPS provided details on Friday about the five permit applications it had received so far for demonstrations on January 20th. Among the applicants was a group called “Let America Hear Us, Roar For Trump.”
In a statement to the Associated Press, Mike Litterst, a spokesman for NPS, said the pro-Trump group had “not responded to our repeated attempts to contact them and set up a meeting regarding their application and their permit is therefore unlikely to be issued.”
On Friday, the NPS closed Washington’s National Mall to the general public until after Biden’s inauguration this coming Wednesday. Thousands of National Guard troops are already deployed in the nation’s capital in preparation for next week’s events.
