Donald Trump has signed an executive order to form a new White House task force focused on preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. While the order aims to streamline government coordination for the massive global event, Trump used the moment to spotlight his stance on transgender athletes in women’s sports.
During the announcement, Trump praised Gene Sykes, president of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, for the committee’s update to its athlete safety policy, which aligns with his February executive order titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.”
“The United States will not let men steal trophies from women at the 2028 Olympics,” Trump said. “So, we appreciate the fairness and everything else that you’ve shown.”
When asked about possible legal action against transgender athletes, particularly referencing women’s boxing, Trump emphasized strict testing protocols instead.
“As far as charges, I’d have to ask the attorney general about that,” he responded. “But there will be a very, very strong form of testing, and if the test doesn’t come out appropriately, they won’t be in the Olympics.”
He added, “They probably would have \[banned transgender athletes] because it just seems to be an issue that most people feel should be.”
Trump also criticized California leaders like Gov. Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass, while promising National Guard support if needed for Olympic security.
“This is going to be so safe,” he stated. “Obviously you have a mayor that is not very competent.”
Vice President JD Vance will serve as vice chair of the task force.
