Former President Donald Trump made headlines during his recent appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention, where he addressed pressing issues about the nation’s divisions and immigration policies. Trump’s remarks sparked immediate reactions, particularly his comments on employment and the impact of immigration on Black Americans.
Moderator Harris from Fox News, began the conversation by acknowledging the current state of division in the country, noting how it has become polarized along racial and gender lines. She then asked Trump about the purpose of his appearance at the NABJ and what message he hoped to convey to black Americans.
Trump responded by emphasizing his stance on immigration, describing it as a significant issue for the United States. He claimed that the influx of undocumented immigrants was negatively affecting job opportunities, particularly for Black Americans. “My message is to stop people from invading our country,” Trump stated, suggesting that the arrival of immigrants was creating “a lot of problems,” including competition for jobs.
The conversation took a contentious turn when Harris questioned Trump about his use of the term “black jobs.” Trump explained, “A black job is anybody that has a job.” He further claimed that immigrants were taking employment opportunities away from Black citizens, labeling the situation an “invasion” and estimating that “probably 15, 16, 17 million people” had entered the country illegally, exacerbating the issue.
As always, Trump’s statements are likely to stir up a range of responses, from staunch support among his base to fierce criticism from his detractors.
