Duane “Keefe D” Davis, the only man charged in the 1996 killing of rap star Tupac Shakur, has had his trial postponed until next year.
The high-profile trial, initially set for March 2025, will now kick off in February 2026 after Davis’ defense team filed a motion for additional time to speak with witnesses linked to the nearly 30-year-old case.
Prosecutors maintain that Davis orchestrated the drive-by shooting and is the sole surviving person who was in the car from which the fatal shots were fired. While Davis had previously admitted to being at the scene, his legal team now contends that he wasn’t even in Las Vegas when Shakur was killed.
Davis himself has confessed publicly to being in the vehicle that pulled up alongside Shakur’s car and opened fire, with the rapper succumbing to his injuries days later. For years, his death was linked to his beef with the Notorious B.I.G., who was killed in 1997. However, Davis has suggested Shakur’s feud with gang members from Los Angeles is what got him killed. Shortly before being shot, Shakur was involved in a fight inside a Las Vegas casino with Crip Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson. He is believed to be the triggerman who fired the fatal shots. He was murdered in 1998.
Davis has pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge, and with the new trial date set for February 9th, 2026, the long-awaited case will continue to unfold in the coming years.
