Twitter’s new CEO, Parag Agrawal, is already shaking things up at the popular social media platform.
Yesterday the company announced a major revision to its privacy policy to block the posting of photos and videos of people without their consent.
In a blog post, Twitter said, “Sharing personal media, such as images or videos, can potentially violate a person’s privacy, and may lead to emotional or physical harm.”
To enforce this new policy, Twitter will require a “first-person report of the photo/video” in question (or from an authorized representative).
“The misuse of private media can affect everyone but can have a disproportionate effect on women, activists, dissidents, and members of minority communities,” the social media giant explained in their blog post.
The company will reportedly review the content in question before any “enforcement action” is taken.
The company also said the policy doesn’t apply “to media featuring public figures or individuals when media and accompanying Tweet text are shared in the public interest or add value to public discourse.”
