Twitter To Introduce “Fleets,” Its Own Version Of 24-Hour Disappearing Posts

Twitter will be getting its own version of “Stories” in a new feature called “Fleets.”

Don’t we all love those 15-second posts that disappear after 24 hours? Of course, we do, and that’s why Twitter is finally joining the ranks of its social media competitors, Snapchat, Instagram, and #Facebook.

On Wednesday, Twitter announced it is officially testing a new feature called Fleets. According to CNN, the test was launched the same day and is currently available to Brazil users. The Fleets will appear on people’s avatar, but they won’t be able to be retweeted, receive comments, or likes. Users will only be able to react to them by direct messaging the person who posted it.

Snapchat is the catalyst for the idea of 24-hour-only posts, and eventually, the concept was reimagined by several other social media platforms, including YouTube. “People often tell us that they don’t feel comfortable Tweeting because Tweets can be seen and replied to by anybody, feel permanent and performative (how many Likes & Retweets will this get!?),” said Kayvon Beykpour, product lead at Twitter. He added, “We’re hoping that Fleets can help people share the fleeting thoughts that they would have been unlikely to Tweet.”

The new feature benefits the user who is hesitant about posting a tweet due to it being locked into a database that Congress keeps. However, the fleet tweets will be treated just the same as regular tweets, as a spokesperson for Twitter said Fleets can be reported if it violates the company’s guidelines. Twitter plans to keep a copy of Fleets “for a limited time” after they are deleted to make sure the content does not break any of the site’s rules and for people to have the ability to appeal decisions.

How are y’all feeling about Fleets?
