Ciara recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of her groundbreaking debut album, “Goodies,” and fans are still enjoying the vibes.
The singer is currently on tour with Missy Elliott and has been performing some of her biggest hits from the project, such as the title track featuring Petey Pablo and “Oh,” which got help from Ludacris. On Sunday, Ciara reflected on the four-time platinum-selling album in an Instagram post, thanking the many people who worked on the project, including Jazzy Pha.
“I will forever cherish moments like this! 20th Anniversary of Goodies Album celebration right here, on stage, in my hometown of Atlanta! Grateful for each person that’s helped me along the way. ATL is the city that made me,” she wrote in a video from the Atlanta stop of the tour.
“Goodies” hit the scene on September 28th, 2004, with the lead single that took over the world and “106 & Park.” This album established Cici as the “Princess of Crunk & B,” as she incorporated R&B, crunk music, and even some elements of pop. Additionally, the music video further solidified Ciara’s place in Atlanta’s culture. Lil Jon, Monica, Bonecrusher, and Pha all made cameos in the visual. “Goodies” also introduced several notable dance moves that Ciara fans continue to emulate to this day. The follow-up single, “1, 2 Step,” featured Missy Elliott and attracted just as much success as her breakout track. This song alone sold over five million copies in the United States.
There is no denying “Goodies”‘ influence on pop culture. Her exciting choreography inspired a generation of actors and dancers. The “Step Up” movies, introduced in 2006, were arguably heavily influenced by Cici. She even recorded the lead single from the soundtrack, “Get Up,” with Chamillionaire.
Twenty years later, the legacy of “Goodies” and the many doors it opened for Ciara lives on, reminding supporters of a moment in history when a teenage Atlantan musician revolutionized the sound of southern R&B.
